This is one place where it helps to look at the park layout before you get out of the car. The park is big enough that the closest parking spot depends on your plan.

It is not as polished as Chaparral and not as recreation-heavy as Eldorado, but it is one of the most useful places to park if you are starting in south Scottsdale.

Use Mountain View Park as a starting point for a shorter northern Greenbelt walk near Shea, Hayden, and Via Linda.
This is a good choice for a casual walk, family outing, or neighborhood bike ride.

Parking Tips for the Scottsdale Greenbelt
For a first visit, do not overcomplicate it. Pick one of the major parks instead of trying to find a random trail access point.
Bring water, especially if you are walking in warm weather. Most of these parks have amenities nearby, but the Greenbelt can still feel exposed in certain sections.
Evening is often one of the best times to go. The light is better, the heat is lower, and the parks feel more comfortable.
For dogs, Chaparral and Vista del Camino are the most useful choices because both have dog park access nearby.
For kids, Chaparral and Eldorado are the strongest choices because there is more to do before or after the walk.
For photos, start with Chaparral Park. The lake gives you the easiest scenic backdrop.

For most visitors, I would start with Chaparral Park.
It is the easiest place to understand the Greenbelt quickly. You can park, walk around the lake, connect to the paved path, use the dog park, take photos, and get a real feel for why the Scottsdale Greenbelt is such a special part of the city.
After that, try Vista del Camino Park for the south end, Mountain View Park for the Shea area, Indian School Park for active recreation, and Eldorado Park for a family-friendly park day.
